Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day Auditions at SSR

SecondStory Repertory is holding auditions for our November 2014 Theater for Young Audiences production of Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day.

Alexander is having a bad day. A terrible day. A horrible day. To be quite honest, it's a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day. But then, everybody has bad days, sometimes. Not only does Alexander wake up with gum in his hair, but his mother forgets to pack him dessert, and his best friend decides he's not his best friend anymore. And if that's not bad enough, Alexander's brothers don't have any cavities but—he does. And just when it can't get any worse, there are lima beans for supper and —yuck!—kissing on TV. It is enough to make anyone want to go to Australia.

The show runs November 1-23, 2014 on Saturdays and Sundays at 1pm and 3pm. We will have school shows during the weeks of November 10-14, 2014 and November 17-21, 2014; shows are at 9:30am and 11:30am. The specific days and times of the school shows will be determined on opening due to schools booking at the beginning of the school year. Rehearsal schedule is Sunday-Thursday 7p-9:30p. Rehearsals begin October 5, 2014.

Directed by Kate Swenson and Music Direction by Julie Parsons.

Audition Date: Sunday September 7, 2014 7pm-10pm (SSR)

tick, tick... BOOM! Auditions at SecondStory Repertory

SecondStory Repertory is holding auditions for our November 2014 production of tick, tick…Boom! Directed by Jeff Orton with music direction by Benjamin Bentler.

Jonathan Larson’s semi-autobiographical tale about a struggling composer living the bohemian life and facing an existential crisis on the eve of his 30th birthday. Facing the pressures of his girlfriend's desire to marry and leave New York City, career failure, jealousy,  and the ever constant ticking of old age cause him to question his ultimate dream -- writing the great American musical. From the composer of the hit rock musical Rent , tick, tick... BOOM! is an endearing, engaging look at persevering to make your dreams a reality.

LILAC - Groundbreaking Original Web Series Aimed at a Family Audience
Lilac, a groundbreaking edgy web series aimed at a family audience is seeking a Russian-speaking male to fill the role of the father of a nine-year-old soothsaying little girl and owner of an antique shop.  The role of this former KGB operative who is living on the down-low as a shopkeeper is a fun supporting role with lots of opportunity for drama and comedy.

So I'm guessing somewhere around 45-55 for the age.  And the quirkier, the better.

Nevertheless, the actor we pick could potentially just be great with a Russian accent and his little Russian-speaking "daughter" in the series could supply him with some authentic lines.

Monday, August 18 2014

Lilac - Series Pilot

Lilac is filmmaker-owned with an open compensation model.  Details discussed with interested actors & their parents.

Casting for Student Short Film “ERNIE” - Written and Directed by Hadley Hillel

Production Title: Ernie
Union/Non-Union: Non-Union Project
Length: Short Film Production
Location: Seattle/Various
Shooting Starts: End of July/Beginning of August
Shoot Length: 4-7 Days
Dates: July 6th and 7th, 2014

“ERNIE” is a dramatic student short film written and directed by Hadley Hillel, who has made more than twenty short films. Hadley’s films have been shown in over eleven film festivals, have won both jury and audience awards and were recently nominated for two student Emmys.
SYNOPSIS: When Ernie's suicide attempt rips a hole in the floor of the apartment above, the lonely old man begins to form a friendship with the young boy who lives there. Stylistically, all film sets will be constructed out of cardboard to emphasize Ernie’s disconnect from the world around him and homogeneity of his surroundings. The film will be fully dialog free, with the exception of occasional narration. I feel as though this is an important story to tell because it deals with themes such as depression, loneliness, and the value of friendship.

Urinetown the Musical! - SSR's Teen Workshop Production

SecondStory Repertory would like to invite teens to audition for our upcoming summer teen workshop production of Urinetown: The Musical!

In a Gotham-like city, a terrible water shortage, caused by a 20-year drought, has led to a government-enforced ban on private toilets. The citizens must use public amenities, regulated by a single malevolent company that profits by charging admission for one of humanity's most basic needs. Amid the people, a hero decides he's had enough, and plans a revolution to lead them all to freedom!

Urinetown runs July 25-August 3, 2014. Fridays and Saturdays at 7pm and Sundays at 2pm. We will start rehearsals June 23, 2014 and will be weekday evenings. For security reasons, the specifics will not be posted online.

Audition Dates:  Sunday May 18, 2014 5:30pm-9pm

Audition Requirements:  THIS PRODUCTION IS FOR ACTORS AGES 13-19. Please bring a current headshot and resume, one monologue that best showcases your talent and 16 bars of song. We will have an accompanist at the audition so please bring your sheet music in the correct key.

Casting Needs:

BOBBY STRONG - The dashing, rebellious everyman who works for Miss Pennywise at the poorest, filthiest town urinal. He becomes an unsuspecting protagonist and romantic hero when he starts a revolution and falls in love with Hope Cladwell.

CALDWELL B. CLADWELL - The evil president and owner of the Urine Good Company. He is a miserly money-grubber who gleefully exploits the poor.

DR. BILLEAUX - Head of Research and Development at UGC. Optional Doubling as TINY TOM.

HOPE CLADWELL - Cladwell's ravishingly beautiful daughter, torn between her father and her new love for Bobby. She begins as an innocent, naive angel but becomes vengeful and determined after being exposed to her father's evil.

HOT BLADES HARRY - One of the Poor, he is a psychopathic and can become a violent loose cannon.

JOSEPH "OLD MAN" STRONG - Bobby's rebellious father. His refusal to pay the fee sends him to Urinetown, ultimately launching the revolution. Optional Doubling as HOT BLADES HARRY. (Non-Singing Role)

JOSEPHINE 'MA" STRONG - Bobby's mother and Joseph's wife. A strong-willed woman with a bite, able to withstand the hard hand life has dealt her.

LITTLE BECKY TWO-SHOES - One of the Poor. She is foul-mouthed, impulsive, and accusatory.

LITTLE SALLY - A precocious and irreverent street urchin. She serves as a quasi-narrator who often questions Lockstock and the play's logic.

MR. MCQUEEN - Cladwell's sycophantic lackey. A servile assistant.

OFFICER BARREL - Lockstock's patrol partner. A thuggish and aggressive policeman.

OFFICER LOCKSTOCK - The tongue-in-cheek narrator of our story, he is a corrupt policeman who secretly kills off the guilty offenders. Bold, brash, and larger than life in many ways.

PENELOPE PENNYWISE - The tough, jaded warden of the poorest, filthiest town urinal. She is Cladwell's one-time lover and mother to Hope who eventually softens her temper.

SENATOR FIPP - A greedy politician in Cladwell's pocket. A bumbling coward.
