EL DORADO - UMO ENSEMBLE AT ACT
ACT
August 19 - 28, 2010 A Central Heating Lab at ACT Event. UMO Ensemble celebrates 20 years in the Northwest with a new production of El Dorado, the internationally acclaimed show that's been called “A feast for the eyes and the mind” (The Victoria Times-Colonist) and “simply masterful” (The Stage, London). Created by UMO Ensemble in the style of ‘Buffoon Theatre,’ El Dorado’s grotesque, fantastical, irreverent Buffoons play at humanity and mock our follies, casting knowing glances at our obsession with power. El Dorado focuses on the Spanish conquistadors’ quest for the legendary “Kingdom of Gold” in the Americas. UMO’s buffoons direct their darkly comic, unbridled energies into a re-visitation of this quest, searching ruthlessly for the city of El Dorado and its mysterious secrets and treasures.

THE BELLE OF AMHERST WITH MARIA GLANZ: NOW PLAYING AT THE CENTER HOUSE
Sound Theatre Company
Back by popular demand, Sound Theatre Company’s production of The Belle of Amherst starring Maria Glanz returns for limited engagement. Don’t miss the production the Seattle Times calls “Exquisite…A jewel with every aspect in perfect alignment…glorious!” One of the most beloved American poets, Emily Dickinson is known only through her letters and her vast collection of poems; much of her private, secluded life in Amherst, Massachusetts, in the mid-nineteenth century remains a mystery. Her poetry, published after her death, reveals a contemporary sensibility that transcends the limitations of her provincial life, her gender and her era. Accompanied by cellist Brad Hawkins’ live original musical score, William Luce’s tour de force one-woman drama utilizes these writings to depict a witty, passionate, and conflicted woman wrestling with the largest questions of existence.
